Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Combine Ingredients
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Add Boiling Water
Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.
Baking

Pour Batter
Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans.

Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
Frosting (optional)

Prepare Frosting
If desired, prepare your favorite chocolate frosting while the cakes cool.

Frost Cakes
Once cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate, spread frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
