Method

Baklava Preparation Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Nut Mixture

In a bowl, combine chopped walnuts, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon. Mix well and set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Phyllo Dough

Thaw the phyllo dough according to package instructions. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  3. 3

    Layer the Phyllo

Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter. Lay down one sheet of phyllo dough, brush with butter, and repeat with 7 sheets for the base.

  4. 4

    Add Nut Mixture

Spread half of the walnut mixture evenly over the phyllo layers.

  5. 5

    Continue Layering

Layer 4 more sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter. Add the remaining walnut mixture, followed by 8 more layers of phyllo, each brushed with butter.

  6. 6

    Cut and Bake

Before baking, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes. Bake in the preheated oven for about 50 minutes until golden brown.

  7. 7

    Prepare the Syrup

While baklava is baking, combine water, honey, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes.

  8. 8

    Finish the Baklava

Once the baklava is out of the oven, pour the syrup evenly over it. Allow it to cool completely before serving.
