Brewing Instructions

  1. 1

    Mashing the Grains

In a large brew kettle, heat 3 gallons of water to about 165°F (74°C). Add the pale malt, caramel malt, and flaked oats to the kettle. Stir well to ensure all grains are saturated.

  2. 2

    Mashing Process

Maintain the temperature at around 152°F (67°C) for 60 minutes. Stir occasionally and ensure the temperature is steady.

  3. 3

    Sparging

After mashing, sparge the grains with 3 gallons of hot water at about 170°F (77°C). Collect the wort in the brew kettle.

  4. 4

    Boiling the Wort

Bring the wort to a boil. Once boiling, add 1 oz of Citra hops and 1 oz of Mosaic hops. Boil for 60 minutes.

  5. 5

    Cooling the Wort

After the boil, cool the wort quickly using a wort chiller or an ice bath until it reaches around 70°F (21°C).

  6. 6

    Fermentation

Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermenter. Pitch the yeast and seal with an airlock. Allow the beer to ferment for 1-2 weeks at around 68°F (20°C).

  7. 7

    Bottling

Once fermentation is complete, dissolve 3 oz of priming sugar in a small amount of boiling water and add it to the beer. Bottle the beer using sanitized bottles and caps.

  8. 8

    Carbonation

Allow the bottles to carbonate at room temperature for 1-2 weeks.

  9. 9

    Chill and Serve

After carbonation is complete, chill the bottles in the fridge for a few hours before serving. Enjoy your New England IPA!
