Cascade Pale Ale Ingredients
Method
Cascade Pale Ale Brewing Directions
Mashing the Grains
Start by heating 3 gallons of water in a large brew kettle to around 165°F (74°C).
Once the water reaches the desired temperature, add the Pale Malt and Crystal Malt. Stir thoroughly to ensure no dry spots remain.
Maintain the temperature around 152°F (67°C) for 60 minutes. This process converts the starches in the grains to sugars.
Sparging
After mashing, heat another 2 gallons of water to 170°F (77°C).
Pour this hot water over the mash to rinse the grains and extract the remaining sugars, collecting the liquid in a brew kettle.
Boiling
Bring the collected wort to a rolling boil.
Once boiling, add the Cascade Hops and boil for 60 minutes. This will impart the citrus and pine flavors.
Cooling the Wort
After the boil, cool the wort quickly to below 70°F (21°C) using a wort chiller or an ice bath.
Fermentation
Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermenter and add the yeast. Seal with an airlock.
Allow the beer to ferment at around 68°F (20°C) for 1-2 weeks until fermentation activity has ceased.
Bottling
Once fermentation is complete, dissolve the priming sugar in a small amount of water and add it to the beer before bottling.
Bottle the beer using sanitized bottles and caps. Store in a dark, cool place for carbonation.
Enjoying Your Cascade Pale Ale
After about 2 weeks of conditioning, chill your bottles in the refrigerator, pour into a glass, and enjoy your Cascade Pale Ale!
