Biscuit Base

Sausage Gravy

Method

Biscuit Base

  1. 1

    Prepare Biscuit Dough

Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C). In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the cold unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the milk until just combined. Do not overmix.

  2. 2

    Shape and Bake

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently. Pat it into a 1-inch thick round. Cut biscuits using a round cutter. Place them on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Fried Chicken

  1. 3

    Prepare Chicken Coating

In a shallow bowl, combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour, salt, black pepper, and paprika. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk.

  2. 4

    Fry Chicken

Dip each chicken breast into the egg mixture, then coat with the flour mixture. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the chicken for 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and let it rest.

Sausage Gravy

  1. 5

    Cook Sausage

In a large skillet, cook the pork sausage over medium heat until browned and crumbly. Drain excess fat, leaving about 1 tablespoon in the skillet.

  2. 6

    Make Gravy

Sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir until well combined. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens. Season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
