1. Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy. Add salt and gradually mix in the flour until a dough forms.
2. Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
3. Shape the Pretzels
Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and form a pretzel shape.
4. Boil the Pretzels
In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda. Carefully drop pretzels into the boiling water for about 30 seconds each. Remove and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
