Burger Preparation
1. Prepare the Patties
In a bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined and form into two equal-sized patties.
2. Cook the Patties
Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. If using cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.
3. Toast the Buns
While the patties are cooking, slice the burger buns and toast them on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.
4. Assemble the Burger
On the bottom half of each bun, layer lettuce, the cooked patty, slices of heirloom tomato, pickles, and top with the other half of the bun.
5. Serve with Fries
Serve the assembled burgers with a side of fries.
