Dumplings (Momos)

Method

Dumplings (Momos)

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually add water and vegetable oil, kneading until a soft dough forms. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Filling

In a pan, heat a little oil and sauté onion, garlic, and ginger until fragrant. Add cabbage, carrot, green chili, cilantro, black pepper, and garam masala. Cook until vegetables are slightly soft. Let it cool.

  3. 3

    Assemble the Momos

Divide the dough into small balls. Roll each ball into a thin circle. Place a spoonful of the vegetable filling in the center and fold the edges to seal, creating a dumpling shape. Repeat with remaining dough and filling.

  4. 4

    Cook the Momos

Steam the momos in a steamer for about 15-20 minutes until cooked through. Alternatively, you can pan-fry them until golden brown.

Tikka Masala Sauce

  1. 5

    Prepare the Sauce

In a large pan, heat oil or ghee over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent. Stir in minced garlic and ginger, cooking for another minute.

  2. 6

    Add Tomato Puree and Spices

Add the tomato puree, garam masala, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens.

  3. 7

    Finish the Sauce

Lower the heat and stir in the heavy cream until well combined. Allow it to simmer for another 5 minutes.

Combine and Serve

  1. 8

    Combine Momos with Sauce

Once the momos are cooked, add them to the tikka masala sauce. Gently coat them in the sauce and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.

  2. 9

    Garnish and Serve

Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
