Dough Ingredients

Garlic Butter Topping

Method

Preparing the Dough

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.

  2. 2

    Mixing the Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture, yogurt, and olive oil.

  3. 3

    Kneading the Dough

Mix the ingredients together until a dough forms. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

Making the Naan

  1. 5

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to the highest temperature (usually around 500°F or 260°C) and place a baking stone or a baking sheet inside to heat.

  2. 6

    Divide the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball.

  3. 7

    Roll the Naan

On a lightly floured surface, roll each ball into an oval or teardrop shape, about ¼-inch thick.

  4. 8

    Baking the Naan

Carefully place the rolled naan on the preheated baking stone or baking sheet. Bake for 2-3 minutes or until the naan puffs up and has golden spots.

Preparing the Garlic Butter

  1. 9

    Melt the Butter

In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the minced garlic and salt, and cook until the garlic is fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.

  2. 10

    Add Cilantro

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the chopped cilantro.

  3. 11

    Brush on Naan

Once the naan is out of the oven, immediately brush the garlic butter topping over the hot naan for maximum flavor.

Serving

  1. 12

    Serve Fresh

Serve the garlic naan warm, garnished with additional cilantro if desired. Enjoy as a side with your favorite dishes!
