Basic Bread Dough
Method
Bread Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F), sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the olive oil and the activated yeast mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon until a rough dough forms.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour as needed to prevent sticking.
- 4
First Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 5
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Shape it into a loaf or divide it to make rolls, depending on your preference.
- 6
Second Rise
Place the shaped dough onto a baking sheet or in a loaf pan. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy.
- 7
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- 8
Bake the Bread
Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- 9
Cool and Serve
Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing. Enjoy your freshly baked bread!
