Method
Preparation Steps
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, mix warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, milk, and softened butter. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 4
Roll and Fold
After the dough has risen, roll it out into a large rectangle. Fold it like a letter (thirds) and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Repeat this process two more times to create layers.
- 5
Shape the Croissants
Roll the dough into a large rectangle again and cut it into triangles. Starting from the wide end, roll each triangle towards the point to shape the croissants. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 6
Final Rise
Cover the shaped croissants with a cloth and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- 7
Bake
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the croissants for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Let them cool slightly before serving.
