Method
Preparation of Coffee Mixture
- 1
Brew the Coffee
Brew 1 cup of strong espresso coffee and let it cool to room temperature.
- 2
Combine Coffee and Liqueur
In a shallow bowl, mix the cooled espresso with coffee liqueur (if using). Set aside.
Mascarpone Mixture
- 3
Whisk Egg Yolks
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the 3 egg yolks and 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar until pale and creamy.
- 4
Add Mascarpone and Vanilla
Add 500g of mascarpone cheese and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the egg yolk mixture. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- 5
Whip the Cream
In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully incorporated.
Assembly
- 6
Dip Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger biscuit into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.
- 7
Layer the Ingredients
In a rectangular dish, arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers at the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture on top of the ladyfingers.
- 8
Repeat Layers
Repeat the process with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and then top with the remaining mascarpone mixture.
- 9
Chill the Tiramisu
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
Finishing Touch
- 10
Dust with Cocoa Powder
Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder.
- 11
Garnish with Chocolate Shavings
Optionally, sprinkle chocolate shavings over the cocoa powder for an extra touch.
