Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings from each other and place them in a bowl.

Batter Preparation

  1. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Whisk together until well combined.

  2. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the egg and milk to the dry mixture and whisk until the batter is smooth and well blended.

Coating

  1. 4

    Prepare the Breadcrumbs

Place the breadcrumbs in a shallow dish. This will be used for coating the onion rings.

Frying

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off, then coat it with breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.

  3. 7

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the coated onion rings into the hot oil in batches. Fry them for about 3-4 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  4. 8

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried onion rings from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
