Method

Preparation of Dressing

  1. 1

    Make the Thousand Island Dressing

In a mixing bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, sweet pickle relish, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated. Set aside.

Assembling the Sandwich

  1. 2

    Layer the Ingredients

On one slice of rye bread, spread a generous amount of the thousand island dressing. Layer with 2 oz of corned beef, 1/4 cup of sauerkraut, and 1 slice of Swiss cheese. Top with another slice of rye bread.

  2. 3

    Repeat for Second Sandwich

Repeat the layering process for the second sandwich using the remaining ingredients.

Toasting the Sandwiches

  1. 4

    Butter the Bread

Spread butter on the outer sides of each sandwich.

  2. 5

    Toast the Sandwiches

In a skillet over medium heat, place the sandwiches buttered side down. Toast for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown, then flip and toast the other side for an additional 4-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is crispy.

Serving

  1. 6

    Slice and Serve

Remove the sandwiches from the skillet, slice them in half, and serve immediately with extra thousand island dressing on the side if desired.
