Preparation Instructions
1. Prepare the Dough
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
2. Mix the Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center, add the yeast mixture and the egg. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
3. Let the Dough Rise
Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
4. Prepare the Syrup
In a saucepan, combine honey, water, and cinnamon. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 5 minutes. Set aside.
5. Fry the Loukoumades
Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Using a spoon, drop small balls of dough into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
6. Drain and Coat
Remove the fried doughnut holes and drain on paper towels. While still warm, drizzle with honey cinnamon syrup and dust with powdered sugar.
