Method
Preparation of Barley Tea
- 1
Roast the Barley
In a dry skillet over medium heat, add 1 cup of barley. Toast the barley, stirring frequently, for about 10-15 minutes or until it turns golden brown and fragrant.
- 2
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring 8 cups of water to a rolling boil.
- 3
Brew the Barley
Once the water is boiling, add the roasted barley to the pot. Reduce the heat to low and allow it to simmer for 20-30 minutes. The longer you brew, the stronger the flavor will be.
- 4
Strain the Tea
After brewing, remove the pot from heat. Strain the tea into a pitcher using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to separate the barley grains from the liquid.
- 5
Add Flavor Enhancers
If desired, stir in honey, salt, and sesame seeds to the brewed barley tea for added flavor. Adjust sweetness and saltiness to taste.
- 6
Cool and Serve
Allow the tea to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate if serving cold. Serve in cups and enjoy your Korean Barley Tea!
