Onion Rings

Method

Onion Rings Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/2 inch thick rings. Carefully separate the rings and set them aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Tempura Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the cold water while whisking until the batter is smooth and slightly thick.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the tempura batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Allow excess batter to drip off.

  5. 5

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the battered onion rings in the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown, turning them occasionally. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Ranch Sauce Preparation

  1. 6

    Mix the Ingredients

In a bowl, combine the mayonnaise, buttermilk, dried dill weed, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and chopped parsley. Stir until well blended.

  2. 7

    Chill the Sauce

Cover the ranch sauce and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve the Onion Rings

Once the onion rings are golden brown and crispy, serve them hot with the chilled ranch sauce on the side for dipping.
