Prepare the Onion

Slice Onions
Peel the large onions and slice them into approximately 1/4-inch thick rings. Carefully separate the rings and set them aside.
Make the Batter

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Whisk until well blended.

Add Cold Water
Gradually add cold water to the dry ingredients, whisking until the batter is smooth and free of lumps. The batter should be thick enough to coat the onion rings.
Fry the Onion Rings

Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or a pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can use a thermometer to check the temperature.

Coat the Onion Rings
Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off. Make sure each ring is evenly coated.

Drain and Serve
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried onion rings from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
