Fried Pickles

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pickles

Slice the large dill pickles into 1/4-inch thick slices. Pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Buttermilk

Gradually add the buttermilk to the dry ingredients, stirring until the batter is smooth and no lumps remain.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Coat the Pickles

Dip each pickle slice into the batter, ensuring it's fully coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off.

  3. 6

    Fry the Pickles

Carefully place the battered pickle slices into the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally.

  4. 7

    Drain and Serve

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried pickles from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
