Sauté vegetables
In a large pot, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, celery, and garlic and sauté until the onions become translucent, about 5 minutes.

Add potatoes and broth
Stir in the chopped potatoes and chicken broth. Add the bay leaves and thyme. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Cook for about 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are tender.

Add the clams and heavy cream to the pot. Stir well and let it simmer for another 10 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
