Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Gradually stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cakes

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool Cakes

Remove from the oven and allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 7

    Prepare the Frosting

In a mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, and mix until smooth.

  2. 8

    Add Vanilla

Add the vanilla extract and mix until fully incorporated. Adjust the consistency with more milk if necessary.

  3. 9

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes have completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
