Calamari
Marinara Sauce
Method
Calamari Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Calamari
Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. This helps to remove excess moisture.
- 2
- 3
Bread the Calamari
Coat each calamari ring first in flour, shaking off any excess. Then dip it into the beaten eggs, followed by the breadcrumb mixture to ensure an even coating.
- 4
- 5
Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the breaded calamari rings to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- 6
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried calamari with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve immediately.
Marinara Sauce Preparation
- 7
Heat Olive Oil
In a saucepan over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Allow it to heat until shimmering.
- 8
- 9
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes, and add the dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.
- 10
Simmer the Sauce
Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will allow the flavors to meld.
- 11
Finish with Fresh Basil
Once the sauce has thickened slightly, remove it from the heat and stir in the chopped fresh basil.
