Fried Oyster Ingredients

Method

Fried Oyster Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Oysters

Rinse the fresh oysters under cold water and gently scrub them to remove any grit. Pat them dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Make the Breading

In a shallow bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Egg Mixture

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined.

  4. 4

    Bread the Oysters

Dip each oyster first into the egg mixture, then coat it thoroughly with the flour and cornmeal mixture. Set aside on a plate.

  5. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  6. 6

    Fry the Oysters

Carefully place the breaded oysters in the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.

  7. 7

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried oysters from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with lemon wedges.
