Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Chicken

Rinse the chicken breasts under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Make the Basil Marinade

In a food processor, combine fresh basil leaves, garlic cloves, olive oil, and lemon juice (if using). Blend until smooth to create a marinade.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Marinate the Chicken

Place the seasoned chicken breasts in a large resealable bag or a shallow dish. Pour the basil marinade over the chicken, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for better flavor.

  2. 4

    Cook the Chicken

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the chicken from the marinade, letting excess drip off. Cook the chicken for 6-7 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C). If using red pepper flakes, sprinkle them over the chicken during the last minute of cooking.

  3. 5

    Serve

Remove the cooked chicken from the grill or skillet and let it rest for 5 minutes. Serve warm, garnished with additional fresh basil if desired.
