Baklava

Method

Baklava

  1. 1

    Prepare the Nut Filling

In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped nuts, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon. Mix well and set aside.

  2. 2

    Layer the Phyllo Dough

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish with some melted butter. Layer 10 sheets of phyllo dough in the dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.

  3. 3

    Add Nut Mixture

Spread a portion of the nut mixture over the phyllo layers. Add 5 more layers of phyllo dough, brushing each with butter, and repeat the process until all nut filling is used. Top with remaining phyllo sheets.

  4. 4

    Bake

Cut the baklava into diamond shapes and bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.

  5. 5

    Prepare the Syrup

While the baklava is baking, combine water, honey, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then let it simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat.

  6. 6

    Finish the Baklava

Once the baklava is done, immediately pour the syrup over it. Let it cool completely before serving.

Maamoul Cake

  1. 7

    Make the Dough

In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the semolina and all-purpose flour, mixing well.

  2. 8

    Add Wet Ingredients

Gradually add the milk and rose water, mixing until a soft dough forms. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.

  3. 9

    Prepare the Filling

Take small pieces of dough and flatten them in your palm. Place a teaspoon of chopped dates or nuts in the center and fold the dough around the filling to seal.

  4. 10

    Bake the Cakes

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the filled dough balls on a greased baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until lightly golden.

  5. 11

    Cool and Serve

Once baked, allow them to cool before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
