Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Hominy

Rinse the dried hominy under cold water and soak it in a large bowl of water for at least 8 hours or overnight.

  2. 2

    Cook the Pork

In a large pot, add the pork shoulder and cover it with water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the pork is tender.

  3. 3

    Add Aromatics

While the pork is cooking, heat a separate pan over medium heat. Chop the onion and garlic, then sauté them in the pan until translucent and fragrant.

  4. 4

    Combine Ingredients

Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the pot and shred it using two forks. Add the soaked hominy, sautéed onion, garlic, chicken broth, oregano, cumin, and salt to the pot with the pork broth. Stir to combine.

  5. 5

    Simmer the Pozole

Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until the hominy is tender.

  6. 6

    Serve

Ladle the pozole into bowls and top with your choice of shredded lettuce, sliced radishes, diced avocado, and any other toppings you prefer.
