Onion Rings

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into thick rings, about 1/2 inch thick. Separate the rings and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the cold water until the batter is smooth and thick.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).

  4. 4

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess to drip off.

  5. 5

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully add the battered onion rings to the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  6. 6

    Drain and Serve

Remove the onion rings from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot.
