Method

Preparing the Steak

1

Pound the Steak

Using a meat mallet, pound the beef round steak to about 1/2 inch thickness to tenderize.

2

Season the Steak

Sprinkle both sides of the steaks with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Let them marinate for about 15 minutes.

Making the Batter

3

Prepare the Batter

In a shallow bowl, combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 2 beaten eggs, and 1 cup of milk. Mix until smooth.

4

Set Up Dredging Station

In another bowl, place 1 cup of all-purpose flour. This will be used for coating the steaks before dipping in the batter.

Frying the Steak

5

Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, add 2 cups of vegetable oil and heat over medium-high heat until shimmering.

6

Dredge and Fry

Take each steak, dredge in the flour, dip in the batter, then carefully place in the hot oil. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

7

Drain the Steak

Once cooked, remove the steak from the skillet and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Making the Gravy (Optional)

8

Make the Roux

In the same skillet with leftover oil, add 4 tablespoons of all-purpose flour. Stir constantly over medium heat until golden brown.

9

Add Milk

Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk, stirring until the mixture thickens. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
