Method
Preparation
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
Melt Butter
In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
Mix Wet Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix well until combined. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Combine Ingredients
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.
Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Add Optional Ingredients
If desired, fold in the chocolate chips and chopped walnuts into the batter.
Bake
Pour the Batter
Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
Bake the Brownies
Place the baking pan in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Cool and Cut
Once baked, remove from the oven and let the brownies cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes. Then, transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before cutting into squares.
