Directions

  1. 1

    Roast Strawberries

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Spread the strawberries on a baking sheet, sprinkle with half the sugar, and roast for 20 minutes until soft and juicy. Allow to cool.

  2. 2

    Make Strawberry Ice Cream Base

In a blender, combine roasted strawberries (reserve a few for garnish), remaining sugar, heavy cream, and milk. Blend until smooth. Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.

  3. 3

    Churn Strawberry Ice Cream

Pour the chilled strawberry mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Once done, transfer to a container and freeze until firm.

  4. 4

    Prepare Vanilla Bean Ice Cream

In a bowl, combine heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, and seeds scraped from the vanilla bean. Mix well until sugar is dissolved. Chill for at least 2 hours.

  5. 5

    Churn Vanilla Bean Ice Cream

Pour the chilled vanilla mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Once done, transfer to a container and freeze until firm.

  6. 6

    Prepare Blueberries

In a small bowl, toss blueberries with lemon juice and chopped basil. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.

  7. 7

    Serve

In serving bowls, scoop both strawberry and vanilla bean ice cream. Top with blueberries and basil mixture, and garnish with reserved roasted strawberries. Enjoy your Red/White/Blue dessert!
