Method

Cooking the Meat Sauce

  1. 1

    Sauté the Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions, garlic, carrot, and celery. Sauté until the vegetables are softened, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 2

    Brown the Meat

Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, oregano, salt, black pepper, and bay leaf. Bring to a simmer.

  4. 4

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Cooking the Spaghetti

  1. 5

    Boil the Water

In a large pot, bring 4 liters of water to a boil. Add salt to the water.

  2. 6

    Cook the Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 7

    Drain the Spaghetti

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti and set aside.

Serving

  1. 8

    Combine and Serve

Serve the spaghetti topped with the Bolognese sauce. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and chopped fresh basil or parsley.
