Method

Salads

  1. 1

    Prepare the Lettuce

Remove the core from the iceberg lettuce. Cut the head into quarters, making sure to keep the wedges intact. Rinse under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Cook the Bacon

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon slices until crispy. This should take about 6-8 minutes. Once cooked, remove them from the skillet and place on paper towels to drain the excess grease. Once cooled, crumble the bacon into small pieces.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Vegetables

Peel and slice the carrots into thin strips. Cut the tomatoes into wedges. Slice the red onion into thin rings.

  4. 4

    Make the Dressing

In a medium bowl, combine buttermilk, blue cheese, mayonnaise, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk together until smooth. Adjust seasoning to taste.

  5. 5

    Assemble the Salad

On a large platter or individual plates, place the lettuce wedges. Top each wedge with the crumbled bacon, carrots, tomatoes, and red onion. Drizzle the buttermilk blue cheese dressing generously over the salad.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve immediately as a refreshing side salad or appetizer.
