Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut Potatoes

Peel the Russet potatoes and cut them into evenly sized sticks, approximately 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potato sticks in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat Oil

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potato sticks and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel to remove excess moisture.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the dried potato sticks to the hot oil in batches, being cautious not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 6

    Remove and Drain

Use a slotted spoon to remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Seasoning

  1. 7

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste. Toss gently to coat.
