For the Onion Rings

Method

Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/2 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and place them in a bowl.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Slowly whisk in the cold sparkling water until the batter is smooth and slightly thick.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pan or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).

  4. 4

Coat and Fry the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place the coated rings into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.

  5. 5

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
