Method

Preparation of Meat

  1. 1

    Cook the Sausage

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the pork sausage and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 2

    Add Garlic and Seasonings

Stir in the minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until fragrant. Remove from heat and set aside.

Preparation of Cheese Mixture

  1. 3

    Mix Cheeses

In a large bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, half of the Romano cheese, and chopped fresh basil. Mix well until smooth and evenly combined.

Assembly of Lasagna

  1. 4

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 5

    Layer Ingredients

In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom. Place 3 lasagna noodles on top, then spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by half of the sausage mixture and a layer of marinara sauce. Sprinkle with provolone cheese and half of the remaining Romano cheese.

  3. 6

    Repeat Layers

Repeat the layering process: 3 more noodles, remaining ricotta mixture, remaining sausage mixture, marinara sauce, and provolone. Top with the last 3 noodles, remaining marinara sauce, and a generous layer of the remaining Romano cheese.

Baking

  1. 7

    Cover and Bake

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

  2. 8

    Uncover and Brown

After 25 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.

  3. 9

    Cool and Serve

Remove the lasagna from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
