Donut Holes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Donut Holes

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg. In another bowl, beat the eggs and then mix in the milk and melted butter. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix. Let the batter rest for 10 minutes.

  2. 2

    Fry the Donut Holes

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Using a small cookie scoop or spoon, drop batter into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes, turning occasionally. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Maple Glaze

In a small saucepan, heat the maple syrup over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Once cooled, dip each donut hole into the syrup, allowing excess to drip off.

  4. 4

    Serve with Ricotta Whip

For the ricotta whip, blend 1 cup of ricotta cheese with 2 tablespoons of maple syrup until smooth. Serve the donut holes warm, drizzled with maple syrup flakes and a side of ricotta whip.
