Method
Onion Rings
- 1
Prepare the Onions
Peel the large onions and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.
- 2
Prepare the Batter
In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well. Gradually whisk in the water until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
- 3
Coat the Onion Rings
Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess batter to drip off. Then, coat the ring in panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure they stick.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep saucepan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the Onion Rings
Carefully add the breaded onion rings to the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally for even cooking. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
Ranch Dipping Sauce
- 6
Mix the Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, combine mayonnaise, sour cream, buttermilk, dried dill, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and chopped fresh chives.
- 7
Whisk Until Smooth
Whisk all the ingredients together until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning to taste.
- 8
Serve
Transfer the ranch dressing to a serving bowl and refrigerate until ready to serve with the onion rings.
