Cake Ingredients

Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed for about 2 minutes until well combined.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, but this is normal.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Directions

  1. 7

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until smooth and creamy.

  2. 8

    Add Cocoa and Sugar

Gradually add the cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and milk. Beat on low speed until combined, then increase to medium speed and mix until smooth and fluffy.

  3. 9

    Finish with Vanilla

Stir in the vanilla extract and mix until fully incorporated.

  4. 10

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
