Meatballs

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Meatballs

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, egg, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until combined. Form the mixture into small meatballs (about 1 inch in diameter).

  2. 2

    Cook the Meatballs

In a large skillet over medium heat, add a little olive oil. Cook the meatballs for about 5-7 minutes or until browned on all sides. Remove from skillet and set aside.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Red Sauce

In the same skillet, add olive oil and chopped onion. Sauté until the onion is translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute. Stir in crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Season with dried basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.

  4. 4

    Combine Meatballs and Sauce

Add the cooked meatballs to the red sauce. Simmer for an additional 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

  5. 5

    Make the Focaccia

In a bowl, mix warm water and yeast. Allow it to sit for 5 minutes. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, and mix until a dough forms. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.

  6. 6

    Bake the Focaccia

Preheat oven to 220°C (428°F). Transfer the risen dough to a greased baking tray. Press your fingers into the dough to create dimples. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with rosemary (if using). Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the meatballs with the red sauce over pasta or on their own, alongside slices of homemade focaccia.
