Potato Au Gratin Dauphinois

Method

Potato Au Gratin Dauphinois

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 2

    Prepare the Baking Dish

Butter a 9x13 inch baking dish with the unsalted butter.

  3. 3

    Slice Potatoes

Peel and thinly slice the Russet potatoes to about 1/8 inch thickness.

  4. 4

    Mix Cream and Seasonings

In a large bowl, combine the heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and grated nutmeg.

  5. 5

    Layer Potatoes

Arrange a layer of sliced potatoes at the bottom of the baking dish. Pour some of the cream mixture over the potatoes, then sprinkle some Gruyère cheese on top. Repeat the layering process until all potatoes are used, finishing with a layer of cream and Gruyère cheese on top.

  6. 6

    Bake

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly.

Enhancements

  1. 7

    Add Parmesan and Breadcrumbs

In the last 10 minutes of baking, sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs over the top of the dish for added texture and flavor.

  2. 8

    Optional Pancetta

If using, sauté the diced pancetta until crispy and add it on top before the final 10 minutes of baking.

  3. 9

    Garnish

After baking, let it cool for a few minutes, then garnish with chopped chives and a drizzle of olive oil before serving.

  4. 10

    Serve

Serve hot as a side dish or a main course, and enjoy!
