Method
Preparing the Mozzarella Sticks
- 1
Prepare the Cheese
Freeze the mozzarella cheese sticks for at least 1 hour to firm them up, making them easier to coat and fry.
- 2
- 3
Coat the Cheese Sticks
Take a frozen mozzarella stick and coat it in flour, shaking off any excess. Then dip it into the egg mixture, followed by coating it in the bread crumb mixture. Ensure each stick is evenly coated. Repeat for all cheese sticks.
- 4
Fry the Mozzarella Sticks
In a large pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Carefully add the coated mozzarella sticks in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Making the Marinara Sauce
- 5
Sauté the Garlic
In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic cloves and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- 6
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Pour in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
- 7
Simmer the Sauce
Let the sauce simmer on low heat for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add fresh basil towards the end of cooking for added flavor.
