Method

Preparing the Burger

  1. 1

    Mixing Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently until just combined; do not overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Forming Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and form each portion into a patty that is about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to help it cook evenly.

  3. 3

    Cooking the Patties

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes on the other side, or until they reach your desired doneness.

  4. 4

    Adding Cheese (Optional)

If using cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover to melt.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 5

    Preparing the Buns

While the patties are cooking, slice the burger buns in half and toast them lightly on the grill or in a toaster, if desired.

  2. 6

    Adding Toppings

On the bottom half of each bun, layer a leaf of lettuce, a slice of tomato (cut into thick slices), and a few rings of onion.

  3. 7

    Completing the Burger

Place the cooked patty on top of the vegetables, followed by any desired condiments like ketchup and mustard. Top with the other half of the bun.
