Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Burger Patty
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the patties tender.
- 2
Shape the Patties
Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties, about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.
Cooking
- 3
Grill the Patties
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty. Cook for another 4-5 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) and the cheese is melted.
- 4
Prepare the Toppings
While the patties are cooking, wash and slice the tomato and onion. Rinse the lettuce leaf and set aside.
