Fried Jalapenos
Method
Preparation Steps
- 1
Prepare the Jalapenos
Wash the jalapenos thoroughly. Slice them in half lengthwise and remove the seeds for less heat, or leave them intact for spicier fried jalapenos.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well. Gradually add the buttermilk, stirring until a smooth batter forms.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large frying pan or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Fry the Jalapenos
Dip each jalapeno half into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off. Carefully place them in the hot oil. Fry in batches for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.
- 5
Serve
Serve the fried jalapenos hot with your choice of dipping sauce, such as ranch dressing or salsa.
