Biscuits and Gravy
Method
Instructions
- 1
Make the Biscuits
Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the buttermilk until just combined. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently a few times. Pat to 1-inch thickness and cut out biscuits. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden.
- 2
Prepare the Sausage Gravy
In a skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned. Remove excess grease, leaving about 2 tablespoons in the pan. Sprinkle flour over the sausage and stir to combine. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly until thickened. Season with black pepper and salt to taste.
- 3
Cook the Bacon
In another skillet, cook bacon over medium heat until crispy. Drain on paper towels.
- 4
Assemble the Dish
Cut the biscuits in half and ladle the sausage gravy over them. Serve with a bowl of fresh fruit and crispy bacon slices on the side.
