Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beef Brisket

Season the beef brisket with salt and pepper. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat and sear the brisket on all sides until browned. Add water to the skillet, cover, and simmer for about 2 hours until tender. Once done, shred the brisket.

  2. 2

    Caramelize the Onions

In another skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add thinly sliced onion and cook until golden brown. Pour in the whiskey and let it reduce until the liquid evaporates, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 3

    Cook the Mushrooms

In the same onion skillet, add the remaining butter and sliced mushrooms. Cook until the mushrooms are softened and lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Patty Melt

On a slice of rye bread, layer shredded brisket, caramelized onions, mushrooms, and a slice of Swiss cheese. Top with another slice of rye bread.

  5. 5

    Grill the Sandwich

In a skillet or griddle, melt a little butter over medium heat. Cook the sandwich on both sides until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 4-5 minutes per side.

  6. 6

    Serve

Remove from heat, slice in half, and serve immediately.
