Method

Making the Biscuits

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

  3. 3

    Cut in Butter

Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. 4

    Add Milk

Add the milk gradually and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. 5

    Shape Biscuits

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and pat into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Cut out biscuits using a round cutter.

  6. 6

    Bake

Place biscuits on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Making the Sausage Gravy

  1. 7

    Cook Sausage

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.

  2. 8

    Add Flour

Stir in the flour and cook for another minute to form a roux.

  3. 9

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.

  4. 10

    Season

Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Adjust to taste.

Serving

  1. 11

    Serve

Split the warm biscuits in half and ladle the sausage gravy over the top. Serve with breakfast potatoes.
