Preparation

  1. 1

    Rinse Brown Rice

Start by rinsing the brown rice under cold water in a fine mesh strainer until the water runs clear. This helps to remove excess starch and ensures fluffier rice.

  2. 2

    Chop Onion

Peel the onion and chop it into small, even pieces to ensure it cooks uniformly.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Cook the Rice

In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of rinsed brown rice with 2 cups of water. Bring it to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 40-45 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.

  2. 4

    Sauté the Onion

While the rice is cooking, heat 2 tablespoons of pure olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 5-7 minutes, or until the onion is translucent and slightly golden.

  3. 5

    Combine and Season

Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork and add it to the skillet with the sautéed onion. Stir to combine. Season with 1 teaspoon of salt and black pepper to taste. Mix well and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to combine flavors.
