Topping Ingredients

Method

Meatball Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, fresh parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Meatballs

Using your hands, form the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Bake the Meatballs

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Bake the meatballs for 20-25 minutes or until they are cooked through and browned on the outside.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Sauté the Onions and Garlic

In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.

  2. 5

    Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. 6

    Finish with Fresh Basil

Stir in the chopped fresh basil just before serving, allowing it to wilt in the sauce.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Combine Meatballs and Sauce

Once the meatballs are cooked, add them to the marinara sauce and gently stir to coat them in the sauce.

  2. 8

    Add Cheese

Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the meatballs in the sauce. Cover the saucepan and let it sit on low heat for about 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.

  3. 9

    Serve

Serve the meatballs hot, garnished with extra fresh basil if desired.
