Prepare the Egg Mixture
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and granulated sugar until pale and creamy, about 5 minutes.

Add the mascarpone cheese and vanilla extract to the egg mixture, and gently fold until well combined.

Whip the Cream
In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.

Fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture carefully until smooth and no streaks remain.
Coffee Mixture

Prepare Coffee
Brew the espresso or strong coffee and let it cool slightly. If using, stir in the coffee liqueur.

Dip Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.

Layer the Dessert
In a rectangular dish, arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers at the bottom. Spread half of the cream mixture over the ladyfingers.

Repeat Layers
Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers followed by the remaining cream mixture.

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and garnish with chocolate shavings if desired.
